Gerhard Stadelmaier

Gerhard Stadelmaier (born April 11, 1950 in Stuttgart ) is a journalist and theater critic . In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) he was in the features section with responsibility for the "theater". He lives in Bad Nauheim , is married and has two sons.

Professional background

Gerhard Stadelmaier grew up in Schwäbisch Gmünd . He studied German and history at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . During his studies he worked for the Schwäbisch Gmünder local papers. He then volunteered at the Stuttgarter Zeitung . From 1978 to 1989 he worked there as a features editor and theater critic. In 1979 he received his doctorate from Wilfried Barner with a thesis on Gotthold Ephraim Lessing on stage . From 1989 to 2015 he was the editor responsible for the theater and for theater criticism in the features section of the FAZ. Since 2003 he has also been professor of theater criticism at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts .

When Stadelmaier attended the premiere of the play The Great Massacre or Triumph of Death by Eugène Ionesco on February 16, 2006 at the Schmidtstrasse experimental stage of the Frankfurt Theater , he was harassed during the performance by actor Thomas Lawinky . Stadelmaier then left the performance ( for details see Thomas Lawinky ).
