The Herbert-Riehl-Heyse-Preis is a journalist prize for outstanding journalists in the print media . It was awarded for the first time in 2005. The prize was donated by the shareholders of the Süddeutscher Verlag . It is endowed with 10,000 euros.

The prize is awarded every two years in memory of the chief editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Herbert Riehl-Heyse . This award is given to political essays , commentaries and other newspaper articles. You must have appeared in a German-language newspaper or magazine within the last two years. Translations from foreign languages ​​are not awarded.

Applicants for the prize can propose their work to the jury themselves. Readers of newspapers or magazines can also submit articles. The submitter must submit a corresponding justification in each case. Contributions in the categories politics, economy, science, culture, sport and society are honored.
