Gerhard Struber (born January 24, 1977 in Kuchl ) is a former Austrian soccer player and now coach .
Career
As a player
As an active player, he spent most of his career at SV Austria Salzburg , where he played between 1995 and 2001. With the Salzburg team he became Austrian champion in 1997 and reached the cup final once. He played a total of 53 games for Salzburg and scored three goals. Until the end of his career, he played for lower-class clubs in Upper Austria and Salzburg.
As a trainer
First, Struber trained in the youth academy of FC Red Bull Salzburg . Between 2012 and 2014 he was the coach of SV Kuchl . Then he returned to the Salzburg Academy. In the 2015/16 season he acted as assistant coach to the professionals before returning to the academy at the end of the season.
In June 2017, he and head coach Janusz Góra took over as team manager for the second division FC Liefering .
In the 2017/18 season he also coached the FC Salzburg U19 team in the UEFA Youth League . He reached the round of 16 with the team, but failed at FC Porto .
For the 2018/19 season he became the sole head coach at Liefering. In January 2019 he gave up his post. For the 2019/20 season he was coach of the Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC . With the Carinthians, he finished third in the Bundesliga after 14 match days, which meant that the position from the previous season could be maintained. He also got four points from the first four games with the WAC in the UEFA Europa League . In November 2019 he moved to England to Barnsley FC, bottom of the second division , where he was given a contract that ran until June 2022.
