from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerhard Titze (* 1890 ; † 1957 ) was a German politician ( SPD ), Lord Mayor of the city of Regensburg and President of the Regional Court of Regensburg .

Life

Titze studied law and received his doctorate. During his studies he became a member of the SPD. In 1927 and 1928 he was commissioned district administrator in Gerdauen . From 1928 to 1932 he was first acting, then full police chief of Königsberg (Prussia) . From 1932 he worked as a lawyer.

Titze was imprisoned after 1933 due to conflicts with the National Socialists during his tenure as police chief. After the war, the American military government appointed him Lord Mayor of Regensburg in 1945.

During his short term in office, Titze faced severe criticism. After the head of the city administration, Hans Herrmann, was dismissed by the military government in August 1945, the dissatisfaction of Catholic-conservative circles, who did not see themselves adequately represented by the Protestant Titze, increased. The composition of the municipal advisory board, a forerunner of the city council appointed by the mayor, also caused conflicts. In March 1946, the military government gave in to general displeasure, appointed Titze President of the Regional Court and appointed Alfons Heiss as the new Lord Mayor.
