Friedrich Viehbacher

Friedrich Viehbacher (born August 30, 1933 in Regenstauf ; † June 11, 1993 ) was a German lawyer and the Lord Mayor of Regensburg from 1978 to 1990 . He was a member of the CSU .

Professional career

Viehbacher was a lawyer. In the 1960s he worked as a public prosecutor in Munich. He later switched to the government of the Upper Palatinate .

In 1978 he won his mandate against Albert Schmid (politician, 1945) , after the SPD had been the strongest parliamentary group in the city council for 18 years and the mayor was always with a large majority. In 1990 he lost his mandate to the SPD candidate, Christa Meier .

Acting as Lord Mayor

The University of Regensburg was expanded during Viehbacher's term of office . As an expert in regional planning , he drove the development of the industrial location. Viehbacher was instrumental in the establishment of the BMW plant in Regensburg . During his term of office the expansion of the Siemens plant and the settlement of the companies Toshiba and AEG fall. Friedrich-Viehbacher-Allee in the southeastern part of Burgweinting is a reminder of him.
