Friedrich Christoph Peter Schubarth (born April 17, 1804 in Regensburg ; † September 16, 1871 ibid) was a German lawyer and mayor of Regensburg from 1856–1868.

Life

Schubarth one was the son of the cantor and Alumneums - inspector and studied after attending high school in Regensburg from 1821 jurisprudence and philosophy in Erlangen . During his studies in 1821 he became a member of the Arminia Erlangen fraternity . In 1826 he passed the trainee exam and in 1828 the state bankruptcy (assessor exam). He then worked as an assessor for the regional government in Regensburg at the Chamber of Finances and from 1826 to 1829 also as a legal intern in Deggendorf , where he worked for the Rent Office until 1830 . Until 1834 he was council auscultant before he became legal councilor of the city of Regensburg in 1834 . Subsequently, in April 1856 he was unanimously elected mayor of Regensburg to succeed the retired mayor Johann Georg Satzinger , who had acted as the successor to the regular mayor Gottlieb von Thon-Dittmer , who had been recalled to Munich and died there .

The district government attested Schubarth "excellent mental disposition, a lot of knowledge and great business experience, prudence, energy, benevolent spirit and recognized service integrity", but criticized that "these good qualities since then through a work that can neither be coped with warnings nor punishments - Displeasure strongly overshadowed “. As a result, Schubarth received royal confirmation for a term of three years only. At this time the city of Regensburg decided to buy the Thon-Dittmer-Palais . The city magistrate's progressive intention not to fall behind other cities and to include facilities such as B. to accommodate schools, scientific associations, libraries and collections in order to create a cultural center of the city. In view of the imminent connection of Regensburg to the rail network with the construction of the train station at that time, the flourishing of trade and commerce is to be expected, which would also increase the value of this urban property. The city civil engineer Franz Josef von Denzinger examined the building and found it to be very suitable for the planned purposes.

In view of the mayor's improved work ethic, the district government gave a better assessment in July 1859, which led to a royal confirmation of his re-election. After another eight years in office, the district government's assessment of Schubarth again turned out to be very ambivalent, also because due to an increasing illness, absenteeism and spa treatments had accumulated so much that, from the point of view of the district government, the “complete inability” of the The mayor's cause was feared, which was unsustainable in view of the need to modernize the city's infrastructure. Schubart asked for his retirement in February 1868 and in May 1868 the district government requested the royal confirmation of his mayor, Oskar von Stobäus , who was elected as his successor , and who hopefully will succeed "in eliminating the multiple existing grievances in the administration and immediately bringing things back to order" .
