Gerhard Weigel (SS member)

Gerhard Weigel (born February 23, 1908 in Flöha ; † unknown) was a German SS-Sturmbannführer , protective custody camp leader in Sachsenburg concentration camp and inspector of all SS construction brigades .

Life

After Weigel had finished secondary school in Chemnitz in 1923, he completed an apprenticeship as a plumber and heating engineer from 1923 to 1928 . He then attended the higher German technical college for heating and ventilation until 1928. He then worked as an engineer in Bautzen until 1930 . After a period of unemployment, when the National Socialists came to power in 1933, he was employed by the administration of the Ministry of Culture in Saxony.

Weigel joined the NSDAP on February 23, 1929 ( membership number 157.373) and the SS on January 11, 1930 (SS number 6.089). From June 1934 he was a member of the Sachsenburg Sonderkommando, which provided the guard in the Sachsenburg concentration camp. On November 9, 1934, Weigel was appointed protective custody camp leader in the Sachsenburg concentration camp, and almost a year later he was appointed adjutant to the camp commandant there . Between 1936 and 1937, in addition to his post as adjutant, Weigel took over the management of the camp construction administration. From the beginning of August 1938 Weigel was a camp engineer in the Buchenwald concentration camp and from the spring of 1938 in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp . From the beginning of June 1938, Weigel was employed in the administration of the SS construction department and then with the SS available troops . From 1941 to November 1941, Weigel was site manager in Klagenfurt for the Waffen-SS and police and then in Dachau . After further brief deployments, Weigel became head of the second construction brigade at Neuengamme concentration camp in September 1942 and of the fifth construction brigade from March 1944. From October 15, 1944 until the end of the war in May 1945, Weigel was inspector of the SS construction brigades at Office Group C in the Main Economic and Administrative Office (WVHA).

Nothing is known about his further life.
