history

As a result of the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , Gerhardsberg became part of the independent rural community Etzelwang with the second municipal edict in 1818 , which also included the localities of Bürtel , Hauseck , Lehendorf , Lehenhammer , Neutras , Penzenhof , Schmidtstadt and Ziegelhütten . Only a little later, however, the Etzelwang community was dissolved again in 1820/21 and Gerhardsberg became part of the newly formed Schmidtstadt rural community, to which all previous districts of the Etzelwang rural community belonged with the exception of Etzelwang and Ziegelhütten. In the course of the municipal territorial reform carried out in Bavaria in the 1970s , Gerhardsberg was incorporated into the municipality of Neidstein together with almost the entire municipality of Schmidtstadt (with the exception of Bürtel) in 1978, which was renamed the municipality of Etzelwang in 1983 according to the largest district. In 2017 Gerhardsberg had 67 inhabitants.
