The German Darts Open is a ranking tournament of the Professional Darts Corporation . It is an event of the European Darts Tour , which is carried out as part of the Pro Tour . It was held for the first time in 2017 . The venue was the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken in 2017, 2018 and 2019 . In 2020 the tournament will take place in the Sparkassen-Arena in Jena .
The first winner of the tournament was the Scot Peter Wright . The current title holder is Michael van Gerwen , who won the 2019 tournament in the final with 8: 3 legs against the Englishman Ian White .
format
The tournament will be played in a knockout system . Game mode has been best of 11 legs in the first three since 2018 , best of 13 legs in the semi-finals and best of 15 legs in the final . Each leg is played in double-out mode.
Prize money
A total of £ 140,000 in prize money will be awarded to the tournament.
