Gernot Jüllich (born January 31, 1954 ) is a former German soccer player . After the end of his career he worked as a coach in amateur football.
Athletic career
Jüllich played in his youth at FV 09 Weinheim and SV Waldhof Mannheim before joining VfR Bürstadt . There he made his debut in the 1977/78 season in the 2nd Bundesliga , in total he made five second division games during the season . After the club's relegation, he moved to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg for VfR Mannheim . After one season he moved within the top amateur class and returned to his youth club FV 09 Weinheim, with whom he was fourth in the table in the 1979/80 season at the side of Fritz Walter , Hans-Peter Makan and Reinhold Gölz . After only one season, Jüllich moved on to league competitor SV Sandhausen , where he was a regular on the offensive alongside Joachim Heinke and Roland Vogel for long stretches of the season and won the championship title. Since there were no promoters due to the introduction of the single-track 2. Bundesliga, he qualified for the German amateur championship in 1981 , in which he failed with the club in the first round at 1. FC Paderborn .
However, Jüllich had attracted higher class attention and was signed by the then second division club SC Freiburg . Under coach Lutz Hangartner he was also a frequent regular player in the 1981/82 season and played 28 of the 38 season games. After a coach change to Werner Olk in the following year, he temporarily moved into the second tier, in nine of his 24 league appearances he came as a substitute player. He then returned to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 1983, where he ran again for SV Sandhausen. After a third place in his first season, he won the championship again with the North Baden in the season 1984/85 under coach Slobodan Jovanić . With only one win in the promotion round, however, he missed promotion to professional football with the club.
After a season at FC Erbach in the third-class Oberliga Hessen , Jüllich returned to Baden-Württemberg football in 1986. With SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim he finished eleventh in the table at the end of the 1986/87 season . As a result, he no longer appeared in higher-class football as a player.
After the end of his career, Jüllich worked as a coach at VfR Mannheim, TSV Amicitia Viernheim and SV 98 Schwetzingen in North Baden amateur football.
Jüllich's children are also active as soccer players and played in higher amateur classes. His son Nicolas Jüllich made it to professional football and played in the 3rd division and in the Swiss Challenge League .
