Gert Weisskirchen (actually Weißkirchen ; born May 16, 1944 in Heidelberg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and university professor. From 1975 to 1980 he was professor for social education at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences . From 1976 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag .

Life and work

Weisskirchen left the Wiesloch high school in 1960 with the secondary school leaving certificate and then attended the higher commercial school in Heidelberg until 1962 . He then passed the business assistant examination and then completed the commercial internship. He then completed a degree at the University of Education (PH) in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe as well as an additional degree in educational sciences , political science, and economic and social history at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . From 1969 to 1972 Weisskirchen worked as a teacher at the Eppingen secondary school and from 1972 to 1975 as a research assistant at the PH Heidelberg. After that he was Professor of Social Pedagogy at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences until his leave of absence in 1980 . Since 1995 he has been an honorary professor for applied cultural studies at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences .

Weisskirchen has been married since 1969 and has one daughter.

Political party

Weisskirchen became a member of the SPD in 1966 and was initially involved with the Jusos , whose state board in Baden-Württemberg he was a member from 1969 to 1972; from 1971 to 1972 as state chairman.

From 1973 to 1991 Weisskirchen was chairman of the SPD district association Rhein-Neckar and from 1973 to 1997 he was also a member of the state executive committee of the SPD in Baden-Württemberg.

MP

From 1976 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Here he was deputy chairman from 1976 to 1980 and from 1980 to 1983 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag committee for education and science. From 1987 to 1990 Weisskirchen headed the armaments conversion working group of the SPD parliamentary group and at the same time was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the "Education 2000" inquiry commission . From 1993 to 1998 he was spokesman for the parliamentary group working group United Nations and from 1998 to 1999 parliamentary group spokesman for culture and media. Weisskirchen was a member of the executive committee of the SPD parliamentary group from November 1998 to October 2007 and was spokesman for the parliamentary group's foreign policy working group from 1999 to 2009 . Gert Weisskirchen has always entered the Bundestag via the Baden-Württemberg state list.

He was a member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from 1994 to 2009 , where he was Chairman of the Committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Human Rights from 1997 to 2002. He was then Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly until 2005. From 2005 to 2008 Weisskirchen was the OSCE Chairman's Personal Representative on Combating Anti-Semitism . In 2009 Weisskirchen no longer ran for the Bundestag.
