Gertrud Spalke

Gertrud Spalke (* 1890 in Berlin ; † 1962 ) was a German actress as well as radio play and voice actress .

Life

Born in Berlin, she earned her first merits as an actress on the stage in Berlin and Dresden, where she played the title role in Georg Büchner'sLeonce and Lena ”, for example . and often played alongside famous stage colleagues like Martin Hellberg . After the Second World War, she mainly worked in Munich.

Gertrud Spalke only rarely appeared in film and television. She played in Fritz Kortner's rubble film Der Ruf and in the drama Between Night and Morning, produced between 1942 and 1944 (screenplay: Alfred Braun and Veit Harlan ), which was revived in 1951 under the title Eyes of Love .

In addition, Spalke worked extensively as a speaker for radio and dubbing. She was involved in various radio play productions of the Bavarian Radio , such as in Das Verhör des Lukullus according to Bert Brecht (1949) and in the Simenon adaptation Maigret und die Bohnenstange (1961) edited by Gert Westphal . As a voice actress she lent her voice character actors like Margaret Rutherford ( Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde and I and the Lord Director ), Una O'Connor ( The Adventures of Robin Hood ), Jean Hagen ( Singin 'in the Rain ), Queen Gladys Cooper ( The Song of Bernadette ), Hedda Hopper ( Pirates in the Caribbean Sea ) and Margaret Hamilton as the "Wicked Witch of the West" in the fantasy classic The Magic Land .

Gertrud Spalke died in 1962 and was buried in the Obermenzing forest cemetery in Munich.
