Complete work is a 13-piece box set by Ton Steine Scherben , released on August 25, 2006. It contains all previous albums as well as four new CDs with live recordings, rare releases and new mixes of parts of albums IV and Schherd . In addition, a detailed booklet with information about the making of the box, liner notes from RPS Lanrue about the recordings for the original albums and comments on the “rarities” CD is attached.

The original albums

All five original albums have been digitally revised. The CDs Live in Berlin and Live II were completely remixed from the original tapes. This should actually also be done with albums IV and shards , but it was no longer possible (see below).

The remastered versions represent considerable improvements, even if some anomalies can still be heard (e.g. on Why am I so dirty ). The equipment of the albums is based on the original LPs. Cardboard sleeves with reduced reprints of the text inserts in the slipcase were used (where there were no text inserts, posters and a Bravo star cut were added). The actual CDs are in the record design and even the undersides are black.

Live III

The album Live III this time is a compilation of four concerts: from October 20, 1982 in the Hamburg Kampnagel factory, from May 1, 1983 in the Berlin Tempodrom and further recordings from the two concerts that had already produced the first two live albums . Particularly interesting is the live version of Jetzt geht's dreizehn , a song that the Shards had played since the early 80s, but which was only to appear on Rio Reiser's album Durch die Wand around ten years later . Live III is also available separately.

What remains - singles, demos, rarities

What remains is a collection of unpublished demo recordings for the albums Shards , No Power for Nobody and IV , rare recordings (e.g. for film documentaries) and the first singles. Among them are six previously unreleased songs that were recorded as demos in 1982 (some with guitarist Marius del Mestre). The text of the song Zeitlos is from the politician and former broken glass manager Claudia Roth . Four more recordings will be published here for the first time: demos of Why is it so dirty and slave traders , the instrumental version of Kribbel Krabbel and a demo of Come sleep with me . It also includes all the A and B sides of the first three singles. The sound quality ranges from lousy (the single version of Alone they make you one ) to quite acceptable.

Remixed

The band was never happy with the sound quality of their last two studio albums. For this reason, it was decided to replace these albums in the box with remixed versions, just as they had done with the two live albums. The original tapes have been extensively restored and remixed. However, during production it turned out that some of these tapes were missing; they had probably stayed in Portugal in the house of guitarist RPS Lanrue and were destroyed by a forest fire. Since no more copies could be found, part of the two albums could no longer be remixed. The new versions were so good that it was decided to leave the albums in their original mix and only remaster them, but to add the existing part as a double CD to the box. The new versions represent significant improvements and now sound as they should have sounded. Some of the songs now show significant differences from the original version, for example the song Temporarily closed is now almost twice as long.
