The Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule ( GSG ) is a comprehensive school in Dortmund - Brackel . At the school, pupils can complete a Haupt-, Real- and Gymnasial degree.

history

The GSG was founded in 1982 from the Otto-Hahn - Realschule and the Geschwister-Scholl - Gymnasium . The school is named after the siblings Hans and Sophie Scholl .

Current

There are 9 grades from 5 to 13. In the lower secondary level there are 6 classes in each grade with around 30 students each. The GSG is an all-day school , the core time is from 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Method day

In each school year there are currently a total of six method days at the GSG. On these days there are no regular lessons according to the timetable. Students have five hours of lessons with their respective class teacher on these special days. You will work on selected tasks on the subject of "Methods of Learning". It's about “learning to learn”.

Celebrations / events

At the GSG there are several festivals organized by the students each year, each with a specific cultural focus on the topic. Various courses contribute to this, such as B. a song about Schiller from the Goethe course (German focus ).

The festivities also include the Spring Festival for the students of the Chinese courses . The festival of the senses and the Goethe evening.

Integration classes

Since 2010/2011 there has been an integration class in every year. An integration class consists of around 20 students, including 5 students with a GU note and 15 “strong” students with high school recommendation. In the subjects of mathematics and English , the class is differentiated, with the integrative students staying in the class to teach in a small group, and the rest of the class attending Maths - Einstein or the English bilingual lessons.

However, this project was ended in the 2016/2017 school year, so that pupils with a GU notation are accepted into normal classes.

Architecture and buildings

The school buildings of the GSG include the main building, consisting of the east building (old secondary school) and the west building (old high school), which are connected by a glass bridge, the sports halls and two sports fields.

From 2013 to 2016 the school was refurbished in terms of fire protection and the school roof was renewed. The school was colored to convey a pleasant atmosphere. In addition, the GSG was provided with media by the sponsoring association with projectors , interactive whiteboards (so-called smartboards) and computers in every classroom.

Educational work and equipment

Classes at the GSG are generally held in German (except for foreign languages ). The bilingual teaching of the school, which some students attend, is an exception.

The GSG offers English (compulsory), Chinese, Spanish or French (selectable as WP1 subject ), Latin (selectable in the 8th), Spanish or Chinese (selectable in the upper level) as foreign languages .

For the foreign languages ​​French and Chinese, the students take a language certificate.

The Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule took part in the German School Prize 2011, making it among the 15 best participants.

On May 2, 2013, the GSG was awarded the MINT Schule NRW seal of approval for the years 2013–2016. This was extended (recertified) on April 13, 2016.

Extracurricular activities

Outside of lessons, the GSG offers working groups such as whirlwind (acrobatics) or the opportunity to take part in a rugby course. There is also a moped course (with exam) for schoolchildren.
