Giacomo Antonio Morigia
Giacomo Antonio Morigia B (* February 23, 1633 as Giovanni Ippolito Morigia in Milan , † October 8, 1708 in Pavia ) was an Italian theologian , bishop and cardinal .
Life
Giovanni Ippolito Morigia joined the order of the Barnabites in 1651 and took the name of Giacomo Antonio . He then studied in Pavia and was ordained a priest . After working as a lecturer in philosophy and theology, Morigia, who was a well-known preacher beyond Italy, was elected superior general of his order, but did not accept the office. In 1674 he was appointed by Cosimo III. , Grand Duke of Tuscany , as his court theologian.
Pope Innocent XI. appointed him on September 1, 1681 Bishop of San Miniato . The episcopal ordination Morigia received on 14 September of the same year by the Cardinal Vicar Gaspare Carpegna . Co- consecrators were Giacomo de Angelis , Archbishop Emeritus of Urbino , and Angelo della Noca , Archbishop Emeritus of Rossano . In 1683 he was made Archbishop of Florence . Pope Innocent XII. awarded Morigia the title of Papal Assistant to the Throne in July 1692 .
In the consistory of December 12, 1695 Innocent XII took him. as Cardinal Priest of Santa Cecilia to the College of Cardinals . The appointment took place in pectore and was not announced until 1698. In 1699 he became archpriest of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and resigned the leadership of the Archdiocese of Florence. In 1700, as part of the Holy Year, he was commissioned as Legat a latere to open and close the Holy Door of the Basilica.
In the same year Cardinal Morigia also took part in the 1700 conclave for the election of Clement XI. part. He appointed him Bishop of Pavia in 1701 (with the personal title of Archbishop). Giacomo Antonio Morigia died in 1708 and was buried in the Cathedral of Pavia.
