Giancarlo Ghironzi

Giancarlo Ghironzi ( February 25, 1932 - March 14, 2020 ) was a San Marinese politician .

Life

Ghironzi was a member of the Partito Democratico Cristiano Sammarinese (PDCS), and belonged to the Consiglio Grande e Generale , the Parliament of San Marino, from 1959 to 1964 and from 1969 to 1988 . He twice held the office of Capitano Reggente , the head of state of San Marino, from April to October 1961 together with Federico Micheloni and again from October 1969 to April 1970 together with Alvaro Casali .

From 1969 to 1972 Ghironzi was Minister of Finance, Crafts and Trade (Segretario di Stato alle Finanze e Bilancio, l'Artigianato e il Commercio) . After the resignation of Foreign Minister Fernando Bigi at the end of 1971, the cabinet was reshuffled. Ghironzi became Minister of Foreign Affairs and Industry (Segretario di Stato per gli Affari Esteri e Politici e l'Industria) . In 1973 there was a government crisis. The Partito Socialista Democratico Indipendente Sammarinese (PSDIS), which has ruled together with the PDCS since 1957 , left the government. Ghironzi did not belong to the new cabinet made up of the PDCS, Partito Socialista sammarinese (PSS) and Movimento Libertà Statuarie (MLS), which ruled until the end of the 1974 legislative period. After the parliamentary elections in 1974 a coalition of PDCS and PSS was formed, Ghironzi became Minister of Industry (Deputato per l'Industria, l'Artigianato e il Commercio) . In March there was a reshuffle of the cabinet, Ghironzi was Foreign Minister until the end of the 1978 legislative period (Segretario di Stato per gli Affari Esteri e l'Informazione) . In 1993 he was one of the founders of the Alleanza Popolare dei Democratici Sammarinesi per la Repubblica (APDS).

Ghironzi was secretary general of the Confederazione Democratica Lavoratori Sammarinesi (CDLS) trade union from 1969 to 1971 . Ghironzi was a doctor by profession, he headed the state health authority Istituto di sicurezza sociale (ISS) and was chairman of the Association of Geriatricians and Gerontologists of San Marino (ASGG).

From 2011 he was the ambassador of San Marino to Jordan (based in San Marino).
