Giannutri is an island that belongs to Italy . It is the southernmost and easternmost island of the Tuscan Archipelago and a nature reserve . Its ancient name was Dianium .
Giannutri has 13 inhabitants (2001 census). As of 2008, 10 residents are given.
geography
The island has the shape of a crescent, extends from north ( Punta Secca ) to south ( Punta del Capel Rosso ) over three kilometers, and is a maximum of 500 meters wide. It reaches its highest point in Poggio Capel Rosso with 88 m slm. Further heights are Poggio del cannone ( 68 m ), Monte Mario ( 79 m ) and Monte Adami ( 43 m ). The area is 2.60 km².
The coast is rugged and rocky and is only interrupted by two beaches, namely the bay "Cala dello Spalmatoio" (in the northeast) and "Cala Maestra" (in the northwest).
Giannutri belongs administratively to the municipality of the island of Giglio , province of Grosseto .
Attractions
- The numerous caves that are located along the coast are remarkable. The best known is the “Cala dei Grottoni” grotto in the southernmost part of the island.
- The Villa Romana ( Roman villa ) was built in the 2nd century by the Domitius Ahenobarbus family and is still in ruins today.
- Faro di Capel Rosso , lighthouse , built in 1861.

climate
The climate is particularly mild in winter, as the tropical plants ( euphorbia , palm trees and wild orchids ) that thrive there testify.
