Cerboli is a small island in the Tuscan Archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea .
It is located about 8 km east of the north-eastern tip of Elba and south of Piombino . Administratively, the approximately 0.04 km² island belongs to the municipality of Rio on Elba .
Together with the neighboring island of Palmaiola , Cerboli was placed under special protection by the Tuscany region .
The entire island is covered by macchia (mainly rock roses ) and garigue . Cerboli is home to an endemic subspecies of the ruin lizard , the Pordacis sicula ssp. cerbolensis . Furthermore, were also rare in this area here shags sighted.
There are very few human traces on Cerboli: a small abandoned quarry and isolated ruins.
