Scoglio d'Affrica (also Scoglio d'Africa ) or Formica di Montecristo ( it. Scoglio "rock", formica "ant") is the name of a small rock that is part of the Tuscan Archipelago . It is located in the Tyrrhenian Sea 18.5 km west of Montecristo , 23.2 km south of Pianosa and 43.1 km east of Corsica .
The island is located in the southwest of the Formiche di Montecristo bank , which is nowhere deeper than 37 meters. The area of the flat rocky island, which towers two meters above sea level, is just under 0.4 hectares or 4000 square meters.
In the southwest of the island there is a 16 meter high lighthouse . Administratively, Scoglio d'Affrica belongs to the municipality of Portoferraio on Elba .
