Palmaiola is a small island in the Tuscan Archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea .
The island is east of the northeastern tip of Elba and southeast of Piombino . Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Rio on Elba . The island is approximately 0.08 km² and its highest point is 85 m high.
On the island there is a 1884 erbauter Lighthouse of the Italian Navy and a helipad.
Palmaiola is an important nesting site for sea birds such as the rare coral gull and has therefore been placed under protection by the Tuscany region together with the neighboring island of Cerboli .
