In the summer of 2012 Schmidt moved to league competitor Sportfreunde Lotte ; There he signed a one-year contract, which was dated June 30, 2013.

For the 2013/14 season Schmidt moved to the third division club SV Darmstadt 98 . In January 2014, his contract with SV Darmstadt 98 was terminated; Schmidt then joined the upper division Wuppertaler SV .

In April 2015 Dennis Schmidt was suspended from the Wuppertal sports club. On April 13, the club announced in a press release that the contract with the striker (previously captain of the league team) would be terminated by mutual agreement.

In July 2015 he joined the upper division TSV Meerbusch. After Schmidt relegated to the state league with the Meerbuschern in 2017, the former professional switched back to his former youth club, SSV Dhünn, in the Remscheid district league.
