Gilbert-Antoine Duchêne

Gilbert-Antoine Duchêne (born July 29, 1919 in Moussey , France , † November 29, 2009 ibid) was a French clergyman and bishop of Saint-Claude .

Life

Gilbert-Antoine Duchêne studied at the St. Augustine College in Bitche and at the seminary in Metz . The Second World War interrupted his training. After serving as a soldier from 1940 to 1942, he studied at the seminaries in Belley and Moulins. On 14 July 1946 he received the ordination and continued his education at the Catholic University of Paris continued and was at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome to Dr. iur. can. PhD .

In 1949 he became pastor of St. Martin in Metz. From 1952 to 1962 he was professor of moral theology and canon law at the seminary Grand Séminaire de Metz , of which he was also superior. In 1970 he became Vicar General in Metz and in charge of Catholic Action .

Pope Paul VI appointed him titular bishop of Tela in 1971 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Metz . He was consecrated as a bishop on December 11, 1971 by the Bishop of Metz, Paul Joseph Schmitt ; Co -consecrators were Pierre-Francis-Lucien-Anatole Boillon , Bishop of Verdun , and Jean Vilnet , Bishop of Saint-Dié .

On June 10, 1975, Pope Paul VI. the appointment as bishop of the diocese of Saint-Claude, based in Lons-le-Saunier . In 1976 Duchêne became President of the Episcopal Commission for the Family and in 1984 a member of the Commission for Rural Regions. In 1985 he was honored with the medal Patriote réfractaire à l'Annexion de Fait .

On December 1, 1994, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. He was buried in his home village of Moussey .
