Gilberto Aceves Navarro
Gilberto Horacio Aceves Navarro (born September 24, 1931 in Mexico City - † October 21, 2019 ) was a Mexican painter .
biography
Aceves studied from 1950 at ENPEG “La Esmeralda” under Enrique Assad , Ignacio Aguirre and Carlos Orozco Romero . Together with David Alfaro Siqueiros , he worked on the murals of the Rector's Tower of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 1952 and in 1953 rejoined “La Esmeralda” and studied graphics there , together with the later director of the school Isidoro Ocampo .
From 1957 to 1961 he lectured at the Institute for Mexican-North American Cultural Exchange in Los Angeles . Since 1971 he has been teaching at the UNAM's national sculpture school, Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, which emerged from the Academia de San Carlos , and since 1998 also in the teaching workshop in Colonia Roma , a settlement in Mexico City. He is a member of the Academia de Artes .
Aceves took part in numerous national and international exhibitions and biennials. He received an honorary mention at the Cannes Biennale and was also awarded a prize by UNAM.
