Gilberto Alves , stage name Gil (born December 24, 1950 in Nova Lima near Belo Horizonte ) is a former Brazilian football player . He played in attack both in his clubs and in the Brazilian national team , the Seleção .
Club career
Gil played for numerous clubs and began his career in his hometown Villa Nova at the Villa Nova Atlético Clube in 1970. He then played for Comercial between 1974 and 1977. He played for Fluminense Rio de Janeiro when the club was known as the Máquina Tricolor ( the three-color machine ). This was followed by engagements at Botafogo FR , Corinthians , Real Murcia , Coritiba FC and Farense .
National team
Gil played for the Brazilian national team between 1976 and 1978. He took part in the 1978 World Cup and played 7 games there. Brazil did not make it into the final because of a dubious game between Argentina and Peru.
Coaching career
On September 2, 2008 Gilberto Alves was signed as coach of Marília .
