Gilles Savary

Gilles Savary (born December 6, 1954 in Oradour-sur-Vayres , Haute-Vienne ) is a French politician . He was a member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009 and has been a member of the National Assembly since 2012 .

Savary graduated with a Masters in Economics , a DESS in Regional Planning and a DEA in Urban and Rural Analysis. He began his political career in 1982 as an advisor to Philippe Madrelle , President of the Regional Council of the Aquitaine Region . In 1994 he ran for a seat in the General Council of the Gironde department , but failed. In the following year, however, he succeeded in entering the city council of Bordeaux . In 1997 he was elected to the national council of the Parti socialiste . This was followed in 1998 by the election to the Regional Council of Aquitaine, of which he was Vice-President until 1999. That year he moved into the European Parliament for France. In 2004 he was re-elected as such and was also able to move into the General Council of the Gironde department, of which he was elected vice-president that same year. After leaving the European Parliament in 2009, he ran in the 2012 parliamentary elections in the ninth constituency of the Gironde department and was elected to the National Assembly.
