Gina Ravera

Gina Ravera (born May 20, 1966 in San Francisco ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

The actress's father was a Puerto Rican and her mother an African American . Ravera was taught classical dance. She made her debut in the 1990 dance film Lambada. She played one of the bigger roles in Paul Verhoeven's 1995 film Showgirls, opposite Elizabeth Berkley , Kyle MacLachlan and Gina Gershon . Her role in the television drama The Temptations (1998) earned her an ALMA Award nomination in 1999 .

From 2005 to 2007 Ravera starred alongside Kyra Sedgwick in the television series The Closer . For this role she was nominated for the Imagen Award in 2006, for the Vision Award in 2007 and a year later for the Screen Actors Guild Award 2008 in the category Best Acting Ensemble - Drama . In the film drama The Great Debaters (2007) she appeared alongside Denzel Washington , whose wife she played.
