Giorgio Corbellini (born April 20, 1947 in Travo , Province of Piacenza , Italy , † November 13, 2019 in Parma ) was an Italian clergyman and Curia Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Giorgio Corbellini entered the minor seminary in Piacenza in 1958. After studying Catholic theology and philosophy at the Major Seminary in Piacenza, Giorgio Corbellini received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Piacenza-Bobbio on July 10, 1971 . He was initially active in pastoral care and school service. He completed a degree in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and graduated as Dr. iur. utr. (Doctor iuris utriusque). From 1982 to 1985 he attended advanced training courses to become a judge at the Roman Rota. In addition to pastoral work, from 1993 he was chaplain of the congregation of the Ursulines , the daughters of the Immaculate Conception of Verona, in Rome. In 1985 he was appointed to the Pontifical Commission for the Interpretation of Legal Texts (today: Pontifical Council for Legal Texts ). In 1992 he became head of the judicial department for the Vatican City Governorate .

On April 19, 1993 Pope John Paul II appointed him Vice-Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City . He was confirmed in office on February 22, 2001.

On July 3, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as Titular Bishop of Abula and President of the Pontifical Labor Office . The episcopal ordination received his Benedict XVI. on September 12 of the same year in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB and the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , William Joseph Cardinal Levada . On May 11, 2010, Giorgio Corbellini was also appointed President of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia .

Pope Francis appointed him President of the Vatican Financial Information Authority until further notice on January 30, 2014 . This position was transferred to Swiss finance attorney René Brülhart on November 19, 2014 . On February 6, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints .
