The Pastificio Rana SpA is an international Italian food manufacturers . Located in San Giovanni Lupatoto in the province of Verona family resident mainly produces and sells fresh pasta , gnocchi , semi-finished and finished pasta and Gnocchi dishes and Fertigteig and tomato sauces .

history

The company was founded in 1961 by Giovanni Rana and emerged from the bakery run by his father . In addition to bread and baked goods , fresh pasta was also produced here. Giovanni Rana, who worked in the family business as a child, was particularly interested in fresh pasta, which at that time was mainly produced in the form of tortellini . When the Rana brothers separated and each went their own way, Giovanni Rana specialized in the production of tortellini and founded his own company with ten employees for this purpose in 1961.

The tortellini were initially only made to order. The filling was prepared every Thursday, the tortellini was finished and packed on Fridays and Saturdays to be delivered on Sundays. Giovanni Rana worked actively in the various work steps and personally took care of the delivery. In 1965, Rana took his sister and four friends into the business in order to be able to cope with the constantly increasing demand. Rana assigned them a certain delivery area in the areas Verona , Vicenza , Padova and Rovigo . Tortellini were made by hand until 1968. The first machine was then put into operation, increasing the production capacity from 50 to 60 kilograms per week to 10 kilograms per hour.

In 1971 the production plant was relocated to its current location and the entire production process was automated by the end of the 1970s. In the 1990s, Giovanni Rana initiated structural change and a comprehensive growth strategy. The management was expanded, the sales network was expanded to include all of Italy and sales contracts were negotiated with the major retail chains . In addition, export activities were stepped up and various acquisitions made abroad . Today Pastificio Rana is the largest producer of fresh pasta in Europe.
