Summit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Summit is one of the major locations on the Moselle with almost 1000  hectares of cultivation area. The large site is part of the Upper Moselle area and includes the vineyards of the communities of Kirf , Merzkirchen , Nittel , Oberbillig , Onsdorf , Palzem , Tawern , Temmels , Wasserliesch , Wasserliesch, Wellen and Wincheringen . The name of this large location comes from Nittel's local mountain called the summit, which is also part of the Nittel coat of arms. Three of the 20 individual layers with a total of around 80 hectares have no special designation and are free of single layers.

The terrain profile is hilly, but not steep. The soil quality is permeable, lime-weathered soil. The character of the white wines grown here is described as "lively, classy, stimulating, refreshing and easily digestible". In the past, 95% of the Elbling was grown here, but the usual diversification of German winegrowers is now more likely to meet customer requirements who expect a greater variety of varieties.
