The Austrian Armed Forces have called the Girls Camp the annual information events it has held since September 2016 for women between the ages of 17 and 30 who are interested in a career as a soldier .

history

The Girls Camps were held for the first time at Jäger Battalions 18 and 19 in mid-September 2016 . The aim of the events is to bring interested women closer to everyday work as a soldier. The women are stationed in a barracks for about three days and go through various stations such as drills , self-defense, military physical training, marching, camouflage and survival in the great outdoors to gain an insight into the soldier's profession.

The Girls Camps were initiated under the ministry of Hans Peter Doskozil , as it was criticized that women often do not have any insight into the profession of soldier, while men already have an idea of the soldier profession because of their basic military service . Although women have been able to join the armed forces since 1998, the proportion of women in 2016 was only around two to three percent.

Around 220 people took part in the Girls Camps in 2017, and 84 at the first Girls Camps in 2018.
