Gisela Badger

Gisela Dachs (born June 2, 1963 in Kötzting ) is a German publicist , journalist and social scientist based in Israel .

Life

Gisela Dachs grew up in the Upper Palatinate . After graduating from high school , she studied literature and philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris . From 1987 to 1989 she was the foreign editor of the French daily Liberation . As early as 1990 she brought the weekly newspaper Die Zeit to the political department in Hamburg . In 1994 she went to Jerusalem as the Middle East correspondent for Die Zeit nach Jerusalem, for which she continues to work as a writer. Likewise for Zeit-Online. From 1996 to 2002 Gisela Dachs also worked for the Zürcher Tages-Anzeiger , and since 2014 she has also been the correspondent for the NZZ am Sonntag . She is also a regular author for the Jewish monthly magazine Aufbau , the Swiss Jewish weekly newspaper tachles and a columnist for the magazine Wina .

In 1993 she moderated the Franco-German political talk format Transit for the TV channel arte . She is a sought-after interview partner on the subject of the Middle East and Germany on Deutschlandfunk , Hessischer Rundfunk , Schweizer Radio (SRF) and i24news as well as a consultant for the Federal Agency for Civic Education , various German political foundations and the Goethe Institute . From 2009 to 2011 she taught as a lecturer in the Department of Journalism at the Sammy Ofer School of Communications of the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Herzlia . She received her PhD in 2016 on the subject of “Immigrant Identities and News Consumption” in the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Tel Aviv. Since October 2016 Gisela Dachs has been a Senior Lecturer at the “European Forum” and the “DAAD Center for German Studies” at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

In addition, Dachs is a book author, journalist and, since 2001, editor of the Jewish Almanac on behalf of the Leo Baeck Institute. She lives in Tel Aviv .

She is the younger sister of the Viennese author Robert Dachs .
