Giulio Serafini

Giulio Cardinal Serafini (born October 12, 1867 in Bolsena , Province of Viterbo , Italy , † July 16, 1938 in Rome ) was Bishop of Pescia and Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Giulio Serafini received his education at the Orvieto seminary . He then studied Catholic theology in Rome and obtained a doctorate in both canon law and civil law . On April 6, 1890, he received the sacrament of ordination . After further studies, he taught from 1895 to 1901 at the Orvieto seminary, which he headed as Regens from 1897 . In 1901 he became a seminar leader in Rome and lecturer at the Pontifical College of St. Apollinarius.

In 1907 Pope Pius X appointed him Bishop of Pescia. The episcopal ordination received Giulio Serafini by the vicar general of Rome, Pietro Cardinal Respighi ; Co- consecrators were Salvatore Fratocchi , Bishop of Orvieto , and Giovanni Battista Scotti , Bishop of Osimo e Cingoli . Giulio Serafini visited several seminars in Italy on behalf of the Pope. In 1908 he became prefect of studies at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome. Pope Pius XI appointed him secretary of the Council Congregation in 1925, on June 30, 1930 he accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in the college of cardinals . In the same year Giulio Serafini was appointed Prefect of the Council Congregation , which he headed until 1938. Giulio Serafini also headed the Pontifical Commission for the Authentic Interpretation of the Codex Iuris Canonici for several years .

Giulio Serafini died on July 16, 1938 in Rome and was buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva .
