Career

Giuseppe Quaglio (born December 2, 1747 in Laino , † January 23, 1828 in Munich ) was an Italian painter, set designer and theater architect of classicism .

Quaglio came from the painter and architect family Quaglio who, originally from the northern Italian Laino at Como arise, later settling in Munich. He received his training as an artist from his father Domenico Quaglio I (1723–1765) and Lorenzo Quaglio (1730–1804).

Quaglio initially worked under Elector Karl Theodor von Mannheim as a theater painter on the stages of Mannheim , Ludwigsburg , Speyer and Frankfurt am Main . From 1778 he went to Munich as a stage painter, where he succeeded his brother Giulio III in 1801. Quaglio (1764–1801) was appointed court architect.

He was the father of eleven children, including Angelo I (1778–1815), Domenico II (1787–1837) and Simon (1795–1878)
