Glen David Andrews (born July 4, 1979 in New Orleans ) is an American rhythm and blues and jazz musician ( trombone , also vocals ) who is active in the music scene in his hometown.

Life

Glen David Andrews comes from a family of musicians. His brother Derrick is the snare drummer for the Rebirth Brass Band ; his half-brother James Andrews plays the trumpet and is known as "Satchmo of the Ghetto" and cousin Troy Andrews is known as " Trombone Shorty ". Andrews grew up listening to brass band music and traditional jazz. these influences form the basis of his music to this day. As a teenager, he joined the second-line parades through his neighborhood, playing bass drum at the time . When he was twelve he decided to play the trumpet. More than his theoretical music lessons, he was influenced by the musical skills of Tuba Fats , Frogman Joseph , Harry Nance , Harold Dejan and other local greats. Glen David Andrews was often referred to as the "Crown-prince of Tremé ".

As a teenager and young adult he played in numerous brass bands ( New Birth, Lil Rascals, Tremé Brass Band ). He was arrested in 2008 after participating in an illegal second line parade . But Glen David Andrews is also associated with traditional New Orleans music; he plays regularly in the Preservation Hall or includes traditional jazz numbers, old hymns and spirituals in his program.

His first album (still with the funk band The Lazy Six ) was released in 2003 ( Dumaine St. Blues ). In 2008 he played with his band at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival . The following year he released the gospel album Walking Through Heaven's Gate , which earned him a Grammy nomination; he toured internationally several times in recent years. In 2012 his album Live at Three Muses was released, and in 2014 Redemption .
