Glory hole

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glory Hole (also "gloryhole" in English; translated: "fame hole" or "honor hole" ) - colloquially also flap hole or tail hole - is a hole in a wall for the purpose of mostly anonymous sexual contacts .

term

In English , glory hole has appeared sporadically in the gay field since 1966, and more often since 1979/82. The term itself can be used in various contexts; some slang uses are rare. The expression became known through homosexual American literature and pornography in German-speaking countries. Since the same term is used in different languages, this foreign word is an internationalism .

history

The first glory hole is known from the year 1700, where the bog-house in the Savoy in London had a round cut-out hole in the partition between the cabins.

function

Glory hole on a toilet in California , USA

Glory holes are holes that are drilled at waist height in the partition wall between two individual cubicles of public toilets or video booths in sex shops and are used to accommodate mostly same-sex sexual contacts between men. Here, a partner puts his penis through the hole in the wall to his hand, orally or sometimes anal by the partner on the other side meet to make. The glory hole can also only be used for verbal contact or for voyeurism . If the hole is covered by one side, this can be understood as a rejection.

Sexual contacts at Glory Holes belong to the anonymous forms of contact in which sexual satisfaction is in the foreground and the identity of the other person remains secondary. With this form of sexual contact (as with all other forms that are practiced with frequently changing and unknown partners) there is a high risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases , especially if the use of condoms is avoided.

It is precisely in such places that men can be found relatively often who otherwise live a heterosexual identity . Their motivation for choosing this form of sexual activity in a departure from this is essentially the desire for sexual relief because their opposite-sex partners reject certain sexual practices or because they are bi-curious (curious about same-sex sexual contacts).

Women are also less common in these places - usually accompanied by their male sexual partners with voyeuristic and / or power motives.

Adoption into heterosexuality

In swinger clubs and cinemas with pornographic films, there are now often erected wooden walls with several glory holes in a row without a partition between them. There the psychological motive of relative anonymity plays a role. Sometimes there is just one woman sitting behind it, stimulating several men with her mouth and hands at the same time.

Cabin sex

A professional variant seems to be an inexpensive Viennese specialty: cabin sex . In anonymously accessible rooms without staff there are several lockable cubicles in which a very generous hole has been cut out at genital level . From shoulder height you can see the room behind, where porn videos are often shown on TVs . An agreement is made with the scantily clad prostitute about the price, which, depending on the type of service offered (manual or oral satisfaction), is between 20 and 50 euros and is thus well below the price in traditional brothels . The anonymity of the original glory hole is thus reduced to the symbolic dividing wall between prostitute and suitor, a variation of sexual services prostitutes to suitors, which was first described in Nobuyoshi Araki's bestseller 'Tokyo Lucky Hole' in 1997 .

Trivia

The video game GTA: San Andreas is a parody of the sexual use of the Glory Hole , the Glory Hole Theme Park . It's a fictional theme park somewhere in the state of San Andreas. On some radio stations he is mentioned with his slogan: "Where strangers become friends" (Eng . : "Where strangers become friends ." ).

The radio stations bring an announcement that talks about Jerry The Gerbil , a fictional entertainer at the theme park. The opening times of the park are indicated as “Open every day till 3AM” (German: “Open every day until 3am” ). In one part of radio jingles, the text is "Glory hole, you do not need to know names" (dt. "Glory Hole, you have no names to know" ) in front, which is an indication of the anonymous sex that takes place there. Children can be heard in the background asking their parents questions. The name Jerry The Gerbil is a reference to an American urban legend which tells homosexuals living that gerbils in her anus would introduce.

In addition, in the South Park series, the Glory Hole was ascribed a functional meaning when the toilet inventor John Harington explained the correct use of the toilet in a court case. The use of a toilet today is wrong; you have to sit back on it to be able to use the shelf “for books, ink and quill” . In response to the objection that you have to take off your pants completely every time, he replied "Yes, of course, why would I have provided the cabins with a laundry hole?" , Which caused great astonishment among the men in the room.
