It is one of the highest rated games for the PlayStation Portable.
action
God of War: Chains of Olympus begins in the city of Attica, where Kratos fights the Persian army. After defeating the Persian king and saving the city, Kratos witnesses the sun falling from the sky and the earth plunging into darkness. Kratos then goes in the direction of the remaining light of the sun visible on the horizon and fights his way through the city marathon . In this way he finds the temple of Helios and its sun chariot. He learns from Athena that Helios has disappeared and Morpheus is about to seize power. He then fights his way through the temple to Eos, from whom he learns that Helios was kidnapped by the Titan Atlas. Using the primeval fire, he revives the fire horses and heads towards the underworld.
After a fight with Charon , Kratos ends up in Tartaros , where he witnesses Atlas being freed from his chains. Thereupon Kratos goes on the way back and ends up in the temple of Persephone, where he sees his daughter Calliope and then follows her. After he learns from Persephone that his daughter is in the Elyseian fields , he discards his weapons and his power and becomes a normal person again. Persephone then explains to him that she has freed Atlas and plans to destroy the pillars of the earth. Kratos then kills all souls on the Elyseian fields to get his power back and faces the fight with Persephone. During the battle that takes place on the pillars of the earth, Kratos chains Atlas to the roof of the underworld. After Kratos defeated Persephone, she explodes and destroys the pillars of the earth, Atlas has thus become the support of the world. Kratos then brings Helios back to heaven.
Game principle and technology
The game mechanics are almost identical to God of War . The player can distribute weak and strong attacks using his weapons and string them together into combos. In addition, special attacks are available to him, which can be unlocked and improved through gained experience points. Life energy and magic can be replenished through blue and green orbs . When fighting against opponents, a barrier is built that only disappears when all opponents are defeated. In boss fights or battles against stronger opponents also are quick-time events are used. In addition to fights, there are also isolated puzzles, which can usually be solved by moving objects.
Since the PlayStation Portable does not have a second analog stick , dodging is achieved here by holding down the shoulder buttons and pressing the first analog stick.
reception
Reviews of God of War: Chains of Olympus were very positive. Many magazines rated it as the best PlayStation Portable title, and the graphics and presentation were particularly impressive due to their proximity to the Play Station 2 predecessors. The frequently repeated hordes of opponents and the lack of fundamental innovations were criticized.
