Golden Heart ( English for: " Goldenes Herz ") is the first studio album by British musician Mark Knopfler without the band Dire Straits . It was released in 1996 and is dedicated to Knopfler's third wife, actress Kitty Aldridge. The songs Darling Pretty , Cannibals and Rüdiger were released as singles.
background
After the release of Dire Straits' last studio album, On Every Street, and a grueling fifteen-month world tour through Europe, North America and Australia, with 7.1 million visitors, which ended in 1992, Knopfler disbanded the British rock group without much ado. The Dire Straits were one of the most commercially successful music groups, with over 120 million albums sold worldwide. He later recalls, "I drew a line because I wanted to return to some kind of reality. It was self-protection, a matter of survival. This level is dehumanizing." He spent two years recovering from this experience, which strained his creative and personal life. In 1994 he started working on his first solo album.
tour
Knopfler supported the publication of Golden Heart with the Golden Heart European tour. This started on April 24, 1996 in Galway (Ireland), followed by 84 concerts in 66 cities and ended on August 4, 1996 in Antibes (France). The cast of the tour consisted of Mark Knopfler (guitar, vocals), Guy Fletcher (keyboard), Richard Bennett (guitar), Glenn Worf (bass), Chad Cromwell (drums) and Jim Cox (keyboard). This original touring group was later called the 96-ers by fans . A preview, with an expanded cast, took place on April 15, 1996 at the BBC building in London. This appearance was recorded and later published as a video titled A Night in London (German: One Night in London).
