Gonzalo Ramiro de Jesús María del Castillo Crespo OCD (born September 20, 1936 in La Paz , Bolivia , † January 14, 2019 in Cochabamba ) was a Bolivian clergyman and military bishop of Bolivia .

Life

Gonzalo de Jesús María del Castillo Crespo joined the Order of the Discalced Carmelites and was ordained a priest on September 21, 1964 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on November 3, 1983 auxiliary bishop in La Paz and titular bishop of Themisonium . The Archbishop of La Paz, Jorge Manrique Hurtado , donated him episcopal ordination on January 7th the next year ; Co- consecrators were José Armando Gutiérrez Granier , Archbishop Emeritus of Cochabamba , and Adhemar Esquivel Kohenque , Auxiliary Bishop in La Paz.

On April 14, 2000 he was appointed Bishop of the Bolivian Military Ordinary by John Paul II . At the same time he was appointed "Honorary Captain" (Capitán de Navío Honorífico) according to an agreement between the Holy See and the State of Bolivia. In 2002 he was appointed Brigadier General (General de Brigada) by the National Congress of Bolivia .

Pope Benedict XVI accepted his age-related resignation on April 4, 2012.
