Oscar Omar Aparicio Céspedes (born September 26, 1959 in La Paz ) is a Bolivian clergyman and Archbishop of Cochabamba since 2014 . From 2012 to 2015 he was also President of the Bolivian Bishops' Conference .

Life

Oscar Omar Aparicio Céspedes studied from 1982 at the Seminary San Jerónimo La Paz and received on 29 November 1987, the priestly ordination . After studying dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University , he initially worked as a lecturer and spiritual director at the San Jerónimo seminary before becoming its rector.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in La Paz and titular bishop of Citium on May 29, 2002 . The Archbishop of La Paz, Edmundo Luis Flavio Abastoflor Montero , donated him episcopal ordination on July 25th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Ivo Scapolo , Apostolic Nuncio in Bolivia , and Gonzalo de Jesús María del Castillo Crespo OCD , emeritus military bishop of Bolivia. In 2009 Oscar Aparicio became general secretary of the Bolivian Bishops' Conference.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on April 4, 2012 military bishop of Bolivia . Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Cochabamba on September 24, 2014. The inauguration took place on January 20 of the following year.

In November 2012 Aparicio became chairman of the Bolivian Bishops' Conference . As such, he also headed the commission for the partnership between the Bolivian Church and the German dioceses of Hildesheim and Trier . Since November 17, 2015, he has been Vice-Chairman of the Bishops' Conference.
