action

A young woman is a regular customer of the porn department in a video store. There, Dick, one of the employees, becomes aware of Anna and one day follows her to be able to look into her apartment from the window. There he watches her masturbate while watching the films that are rented. What initially looks like a stalker film, however, develops in a completely different direction. Dick tries hard to get in touch with her, tries to persuade her to go on a date or at least to talk to her. In order not to be suspected of being a stalker, he claims to be visiting a relative in this residential area. When Anna refused his verbal advances, Dick tried to gain her goodwill through free porn films. However, he remains unsuccessful and therefore finally claims that his relative has died, from which he hopes for her comfort and admission into her apartment. When she tentatively lets him stay in her apartment and also with her, a bizarre relationship develops between the two of them. While Anna apparently has enough financial means to live out her misanthropic existence in her apartment, Dick now visits her daily to take care of her and continue to bring her films. Because of a lost bet, he is even allowed to sleep in her bed. Since he cannot afford his own apartment with his salary, he has to rely on her tolerance. Although they do not exchange any contacts, a kind of love relationship develops between them, which, at the mere mention of him, is completely rejected by her. Despite Dick's efforts to bring Anna back to life, she remains dismissive and only lets her feelings run free in rare moments. As the situation between the two escalates, he finally gives up and withdraws to his previous life. Impressed by Dick's efforts, Anna ultimately approaches her father to turn off his financial support. Her abuse by the father in her childhood is hinted at. After the argument with her father, Anna goes to the video store to see Dick. There the film ends in a painfully loving encounter between the two of them. This ending does not promise an answer, but it shows a tentative attempt on your part to open up to physical intimacy despite a traumatic past, which is partly thanks to Dick's persistent efforts and his highly sensitive demeanor.

Reviews

Todd McCarthy wrote in Variety magazine on Jan. 18, 2008 that the film was "self-therapy" that feigned art. The story is more a case for a psychiatrist than the Sundance Film Festival. The relationship shown has sadomasochistic traits. Marianna Palka seems like a “stronger” Nastassja Kinski ; Jason Ritter’s portrayal is energetic and vaguely promising.

The organizers of the Sundance Film Festival 2008 described the film as an "original love story" . He is funny, watching is fun.
