Gordon "Gord" Blumenschein (born June 18, 1956 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a former Canadian - German ice hockey player and coach , who worked for the EHC Essen-West and the Cologne EC in the Has played ice hockey Bundesliga .
Career
Gordon Blumenschein began his career as a hockey player with the Winnipeg Jets (later Winnipeg Clubs and Winnipeg Monarchs), for which he was active from 1972 to 1976 in the Canadian junior league Western Canada Hockey League . He was then selected in the WHA Amateur Draft 1976 in the sixth round as a total of 72 players by the Edmonton Oilers , for which he never played. Instead, he ran from 1976 to 1978 for one season each for the Baltimore Clippers in the Southern Hockey League and the Transcona Chargers in the CSHL. After a year at the University of Manitoba, Blumenschein went to Germany in 1979, where he spent the next six years for EHC Essen-West in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga and, after its promotion in the 1984/95 season, in the ice hockey Bundesliga stood on the ice.
After Blumenschein had scored 23 scorer points in 45 games for the Cologne EC in the 1985/86 season , including six goals, he played for the second division EC Bad Nauheim for three years . In the 1989/90 season , the right-handed player moved within the 2nd Bundesliga from ERC Westfalen Dortmund to ECD Sauerland . He last played for Bad Nauheim from 1990 to 1992, where he ended his active career at the age of 36. During the 1990/91 season he was head coach for Bad Nauheim parallel to his activity as a player and rose with his team from the ice hockey league to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 1992/93 season , the German-Canadian took over the post as head coach at his ex-club from Essen, but was replaced by Peter Gailer during the season . He then took over as coach from Wilbert Duszenko at the EC in Hanover . In the following season he had to give way to Hartmut Nickel .
