Gordon Langford

Gordon Langford , actually Gordon Colman, (born May 1930 in Edgware , London , † April 18, 2017 ) was a British arranger and composer .

Live and act

Gordon Langford was enthusiastic about music from an early age. His first composition was performed publicly at the age of nine. At the age of eleven he performed for the first time in public with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, KV 488. At the age of 17 he won the Middlesex scholarship from the Royal Academy of Music, whereupon he studied piano , trombone and composition . He spent his military service in the Royal Artillery Band in Woolwich . It was with this orchestra that his first BBC live broadcast as a solo pianist took place in 1951. In the 1960s, Langford worked as a pianist, arranger and composer for the BBC.

In 1971 he won the Ivor Novello Award for his March from the Color Suite (1970).

Langford has written several original compositions for both the brass band and the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble . He was often with the orchestration of film scores such as Indiana Jones - Raiders of the Lost Ark or alone against all - Superman II (both original compositions by John Williams ) and other great composers like Henry Mancini or Jerry Goldsmith instructed.

Gordon Langford lived in East Devon , South West England .
