Gosbert Schuessler

Gosbert Schüßler (born May 12, 1947 in Leidersbach ; † March 25, 2014 ) was a German art historian .

Life

After graduating from the Benediktinergymnasium Ettal in 1966, he studied art history, German literature, philosophy and Christian archeology at the universities of Heidelberg and Munich from 1966 to 1975 . In 1975 he was at the University of Heidelberg with the thesis "Studies on the iconography of the Antichrist" doctorate . From 1975 to 1977 he worked at the Reallexikon zur Deutschen Kunstgeschichte at the Central Institute for Art History , from 1977 to 1979 he was a scholarship holder at the Art History Institute in Florence and there from 1979 to 1983 a research assistant . From 1983 to 1989 he was a research assistant at the Art History Institute of the University of Regensburg , where in 1988 he wrote “Seeing and Hearing. Art History Studies ”completed his habilitation . From 1989 to 1995 he taught as an associate professor at the Institute for Art History at the University of Würzburg , and from 1995 to 1998 as an associate professor at the Institute for Art History at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . From 1998 until his retirement in 2010 he held the chair for art history and Christian archeology at the University of Passau .
