Goswin Anton von Spiegel zum Desenberg and Canstein (* October 6, 1712 , † October 22, 1793 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and canon in Münster and Paderborn as well as a privy councilor and secular court judge.

Life

Origin and family

Goswin Anton mirror for Desenberg came from the the nobility of the diocese of Paderborn counting noble family of mirrors to Desenberg . He was the son of Johann Everhard von Spiegel zum Desenberg (1660-1737) and his wife Josina Maria von Schade (1677-1737). Franz Wilhelm von Spiegel (1752–1815, Minister of the Electorate of Cologne) and Ferdinand August von Spiegel (1764–1835, Archbishop of Cologne) were his nephews.

Career and work

In 1733 enrolled Goswin Anton at the University of Siena , after the previous year with papal encouragement by the death of Domdechanten of Landsberg freed Münstersche Dompräbende had received. In 1746 he opted for the archdeaconate Stadtlohn, gave it up two years later and became archdeacon in Albersloh, associated with the cathedral choir. In 1747 he received the imperial first request for the cathedral canonical in St. Mauritz in Münster . There was a dispute with the chapter in St. Mauritz because Goswin Anton wanted to fill the office of scholastics. Finally, this dispute was decided in favor of Spiegel by the Reichshofrat . As a protégé of the Prince-Bishop Vicedominus and in 1753, Goswin Anton became a privy councilor and secular court judge. During the Seven Years' War he worked for the Prince Diocese of Münster in a commission that had to regulate all military matters. He was arrested by the occupying forces on June 6, 1758 and exiled until the end of the war. In Paderborn , Goswin Anton owned a cathedral canonical since 1770, which he renounced in 1790 .
