Gottfried Albert Maria Bachem (* 1866 in Bonn ; † 1942 ) was a German painter and illustrator from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

From 1887 Bachem studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Heinrich Lauenstein , Hugo Crola , Peter Janssen the Elder , Adolf Schill , Eduard von Gebhardt , Julius Roeting and Carl Ernst Forberg . From October 21, 1892 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Otto Seitz .

Then he settled in Leipzig . He later lived in Düsseldorf from around 1915 , where he first lived in Oberbilk and, after the First World War, until the early 1940s in Oberkassel , Wildenbruchstrasse 50. There his wife Hedwig gave birth to their daughter Renate Gabriele in 1916, who became known as an artist under the name Bele Bachem .

Bachem, who belonged to the artists' association Malkasten from 1921 to 1932 , painted portraits, genre scenes and landscapes, and also illustrated children's books. From 1900 he took part in numerous art exhibitions, including in Berlin .
