Gottfried Fischborn (born March 17, 1936 in Marienberg ; † March 23, 2020 in Wiesbaden ) was a German literary and theater scholar .

Life and work

Gottfried Fischborn grew up in Oschatz and attended high school there. After studying theater studies (1955–1959), he initially worked as a dramaturge at the Meininger Theater. Since 1961 he worked as a research assistant, from 1970 as a lecturer and from 1977 to 1992 as a professor at the theater school "Hans Otto" Leipzig. For a while he was also Vice Rector and Head of Theater Studies. From 1992 to 2002 Fischborn taught at the University of Leipzig ; From 1998 to 2000 he was also a visiting lecturer and most recently visiting professor in the field of drama writing and theater theory at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig .

Fischborn worked in the border area between literary and theater studies. His research interests were mainly in the field of drama history , the theory of drama and theatricality research. In the 1970s and 1980s he also appeared in the GDR with literary publications (plays, radio plays, essay writing). From April 2001 to the end of October 2017, Gottfried Fischborn was the first in the German-speaking area to offer online correspondence courses on scenic writing, which were accompanied by workshops that he led together with Dagmar Borrmann .

Fischborn died in March 2020, a few days after his 84th birthday, in Wiesbaden.
