Gottfried Meinhold (born June 28, 1936 in Erfurt ) is a German speech scientist and writer.

biography

Gottfried Meinhold grew up in Erfurt , where he also passed his Abitur in 1954 and studied at the Pedagogical Institute in Erfurt. After the state examination as a German teacher in 1956, he was a teacher at the Wilhelm-Pieck-Schule Stadtilm and studied as an external student at the University of Jena . After obtaining a diploma in speech science and German studies in 1959, he was a research assistant at the University and Polyclinic for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Diseases of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg as well as a lecturer at the Institute for Speech Studies and University Phonetic Collection . He has published numerous academic papers in phonetics, speech science, speech therapy, linguistics and communication studies.

Meinhold received his doctorate in 1964 at the Humboldt University in Berlin and was then a lecturer at the Institute for Speech Studies at the Friedrich Schiller University, later the Speech Studies department of the German Institute. In 1968 he received his habilitation and in 1971 he was appointed lecturer for phonetics and speech science at the University of Jena. From 1985 Gottfried Meinhold was an associate professor at the University of Jena and in the winter semester 1989/90 he was a visiting professor at the University of Heidelberg .

In 1990 he was elected as a member of the Scientific Council and the Faculty Council of the Social Sciences Faculty of the Friedrich Schiller University and was Vice Rector for Humanities, Cultural and Social Sciences from 1990 to 1993 before he was appointed professor at the Friedrich Schiller University. He has been retired since 2001.

Meinhold's literary activity goes back to the sixties; Publications could only be enforced much later. In some of his books he uses the possibility of fantastic, utopian alienation in order to tackle philosophically explosive and socially critical questions. In the GDR, this was accused of being a "politically vulnerable" criticism of the system. As a result, the publication of a number of novels and short stories was hindered: The novel World Ascension had to wait seven years for printing, the novel Being and Staying eight years. The border and the novel Edermann as well as early versions of the novel Die Grube , written in 1968/72, were not published. In 1983, in connection with the novel Being and Staying Against the Author , the State Security staged a targeted IM mission "to prevent, investigate and combat underground political activity".

Gottfried Meinhold is the father of the Thuringian university organist Wieland Meinhold .
