Gottfried Schlegtendal

Friedrich Gottfried Schlegtendal (born January 9, 1807 in Duisburg ; † June 16, 1878 there ) was a German lawyer and politician. From 1851 to 1863 he was mayor of the city of Duisburg.

Life

Friedrich Gottfried Schlegtendal comes from the long-established and influential Schlegtendal family from Duisburg- Duissern . He was a son of Peter Adrian Gottfried Schlegtendal and his wife Susanne (née Schoeller). He had several siblings. Schlegtendal married Luise Schombart in 1837. The two had no children.

Schlegtendal, like his father and grandfather, was a lawyer. In 1839 Schlegtendal, who had previously been a court assessor in Duisburg, was appointed judicial commissioner at the regional and municipal court in Duisburg. In 1847 Schlegtendal was also appointed as a notary in the area of ​​the Hamm Higher Regional Court .

From 1851 to 1863 Gottfried Schlegtendal was mayor of the city of Duisburg. Duisburg has had a mayor only since July 24, 1876. During Schlegtendal's tenure, the iron and steel industry in Duisburg began to flourish with the establishment of the Niederrheinische Hütte in 1851. This was followed in short intervals by the establishment of further smelters and, from 1855, the first mining shafts.
