Otto Keller (born May 8, 1830 in Hamm in Westphalia, † July 13, 1907 in Duisburg ) was a German politician, mayor of the city of Duisburg and a member of the North German Reichstag .

Life

After studying law, Keller first worked as a court assessor at the Prussian Mining Office in Tarnowitz ( Upper Silesia ), then worked at the Hamm Court of Appeal . He was elected mayor of the city of Duisburg in 1863 and remained in this office until 1873. During his tenure, the first water pipeline was laid in the up-and-coming industrial city of Duisburg. In addition, the construction of the sewer system began. From 1879 to 1905 he was President of the Duisburg Chamber of Commerce .

After the split in the Progressive Party , he joined the National Liberal Party and ran for the North German Reichstag in 1867, but just lost in the runoff election against Justus von Gruner , the candidate of the old liberals , on February 12, 1867 . In a replacement election on September 21, 1867, Keller then won the first ballot with an absolute majority and became a member of the constituency of Düsseldorf 6 ( Duisburg , which also included the cities of Mülheim an der Ruhr and Oberhausen ) in the North German Reichstag; on December 11, 1868, however, he resigned his mandate.

Otto Keller founded the Duisburg-Ruhrorter Bank to promote the regional economy and was director of this bank until 1902. In 1902 the majority of shares in the bank in the amount of 12 million Reichsmarks was taken over by Deutsche Bank.

In Neudorf (Duisburg) is Otto Keller Street named after him.
