Friedrich Wilhelm Wegner

Friedrich Wilhelm Wegner (born March 14, 1836 in Klöden , † July 8, 1898 in Barmen ) was a German politician .

The son of a manor owner attended high school in Wittenberg, then studied philosophy and theology for three semesters at the University of Halle and then law for six semesters. In 1860 he began his career in the judiciary.

In 1867 he became mayor of Ueckermünde ( Pomerania ), in 1869 mayor of Witten / Ruhr and on April 1, 1873 successor to Otto Keller as mayor of Duisburg . On July 24, 1876, Emperor Wilhelm I appointed him Lord Mayor . Wegner remained in office in Duisburg until October 15, 1879.

He then took over the post of Lord Mayor of Barmen in 1879 , which he held until 1898. On September 1, 1893, he received the title of "Privy Councilor". Wegner died in Barmen shortly before he would have retired.

Wegner had been a member of the Corps Teutonia Halle since 1856.
